The "14th Five-Year Plan" period is a critical period and window period for peaking carbon dioxide emissions. Meanwhile, it is also an opportunity period for promoting the construction of a renewable energy supply and consumption system based on large wind and photovoltaic power bases, with stable, safe and reliable UHV power transmission and transformation as the carrier. At present, the large-scale reliable transmission and efficient utilization of renewable energy still face multiple challenges such as optimal networking of sending-end systems, VSC-HVDC long-distance transmission, and stable operation of receiving-end systems. Under the background of China's strategic goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" and the construction of a new power system based on renewable energy, it is necessary to conduct an in-depth exploration on the key technologies of VSC-HVDC transmission of large-scale renewable energy bases. The global gold open access academic journal S. Energy Constr. (Indexed by Scopus, DOAJ, EBSCO, JST, etc.) is planning to publish a special issue of "DC Transmission Technology for New Power System Construction" in Sep. 2023. Experts such as the Professor-level Senior Engineer Yuan Zhiyong from CSG Electric Power Research Institute and Associate Professor Sun Potao from Chongqing University will be invited to serve as the special editors-in-chief so as to jointly promote scientific communication and academic exchanges in the field of electric power and energy. This Special Issue will provide a unique opportunity to showcase extensive researches conducted on this topic in China.
